In the centre of the old village of La Roquette, which is about seven minutes walk from the house, there is a butcher/charcutier/general store, a baker, a chemist and a bar and there are at least three large supermarkets about five minutes drive away (the nearest being "Intermarché" on the bottom road from La Roquette to Pegomas, "Casino" in Mouans Sartoux, "Champion" in Mougins.) A further 10 minute walk through the Village there are two good local restaurants: La Pinède and Le Pin Bon.
The charming hill-top village of Mougins with its cobbled streets and over 20 restaurants and 12 art galleries is about ten minutes drive from the Villa. The sophisticated town of Cannes, noted for its Film Festival in May, is 15 minutes drive away as are the sandy beaches of Cannes, La Bocca, Mandelieu and La Napoule. Do not miss the experience of the famous bustling produce market in the morning at Forville in Cannes, where inexpensive places for lunch are found in the back streets with somewhat more expensive shopping along the rue d'Antibes.
The picturesque port town of Antibes is approximately 20 minutes away with its famous Picasso Museum in the old Grimaldi Castle and markets selling produce, bric-à-brac and clothes. Head further around the Cap d'Antibes where you will find the Eden Roc Hotel (where you will feel the touch of F Scott Fitzgerald) and where you pass by the beautifully manicured gardens of elegant Villas overlooking the Mediterranean. At the tip of the Cap is a breath-taking walk which is well worth the effort if it's not too hot - otherwise stop off at a beach restaurant at La Garoupe for lunch and a swim.
A little further afield is the Principality of Monaco (approximately 40 minutes drive), home of the current Grimaldi family and the Monaco Grand Prix with the Italian Riviera a further 20 minutes drive. Ventimiglia, Bordighera and San Remo are fascinating old Italian towns, steeped in history, with amazing markets on different days of the week. (The French flock to these markets so leave early to ensure a convenient parking place.)
The following ski fields are just over 1 hours drive, and are renowned for guaranteed sunshine and snow: Isola 2000, Valberg and Auron.
